Our team - Sharon Darcy

Sharon is a champion of consumer concerns in energy and water and has worked with Sustainability First since 2013. She served on the Council of Which? until April 2019, prior to which she was a long-standing board member of Consumer Futures (and its predecessor bodies, Consumer Focus and energywatch).  She was a board member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority until January 2020, and is a member of the UK Regulators Network Expert Panel and of the British Academy Public Policy Committee.

As a qualified accountant, she began her career working on value for money studies in the privatisation and regulation team at the National Audit Office. She has been a Trustee of the new workplace pension provider NEST where she chaired the Risk Committee, a lay member of the Standards Committee of the House of Commons and Chair of a Citizens’ Advice Bureau.  She has also been a member of Ofgem’s expert panel to assess the network innovation competitions; the Ofgem ‘Consumer Challenge Group’ for Distribution Price Control 5, RIIO1 and RIIO2; and Ofwat’s Customer Advisory Panel and the previous Ofwat Future Regulation Advisory Panel.

Dr Martin Hurst was a senior civil servant on environmental issues for 20 years, including as Water Director in government and Environment Advisor in Number 10, and is by background a professional economist.

Zoe McLeod is a consumer policy and regulatory expert with a particular focus on energy, water, innovation and consumer vulnerability issues.
Judith Ward

Judith Ward has worked with Sustainability First as an associate since 2005. She was director of Sustainability First for five years. She is an energy policy professional with long-standing practical experience of both the utility and consumer worlds.
Alice Cross

Alice is Sustainability First’s Research Officer, responsible for carrying out research on projects and Sustainability First initiatives, as well as communicating Sustainability First’s messages.
Janine Duffy

Janine is Sustainability First’s Communications and Engagement officer, responsible for developing and implementing the organisation’s communications strategy.
Sonya Peres

Sonya is Sustainability First’s part-time Educational Outreach Officer for the Sustainable Futures Programme. She is working on delivering workshops on sustainability for primary and secondary school youth.
