This gallery showcases a series of work by Hugo Lami, made during his Sustainability First Artist Residency with UK Power Networks. Hugo's work explores the interconnectedness of nature, technology, energy and life.

By breaking down e-waste and putting it back together, Hugo highlights the ways in which technology mimics nature and how the two are co-dependent.

Hugo Lami has a Masters in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art and a Degree in Painting from the Lisbon Fine Arts Academy. He has been exhibiting in galleries and institutional spaces across Europe since 2014. He won the 2021 Neon Gallery Art Award and is now represented by Neon Gallery. Hugo was born in Portugal, he currently lives and works in London.

“When machines stop working, or when a better version comes along and they get replaced, they become objects. Objects can be sculptures… I feel responsible to make them stand for themselves, so I rebuild them, add them to other materials, recycle parts, bend them until they look like they’ve never had any other purpose or function beyond standing there, for you.” - Hugo Lami
