Our team - Sophie Grinnell

Sophie is Sustainability First's Research Officer, responsible for carrying out research on projects and Sustainability First initiatives. She has been involved in our Fair Transition work, engaging with members of the public and stakeholder mapping.

Sophie has a strong research and academic background with degrees in Environmental Engineering and Water, Energy and the Environment. Her doctorate (2019) examined the social impacts of hydraulic fracturing on communities.

She is passionate about the unequal impact of policies on communities and those who are vulnerable and hard to reach.

Before joining, she did a literature review of the hazards associated with poor housing for the updated housing health and safety rating system at Cardiff Met university and worked with policy makers to humanise the data from community projects as part of the Greater London Authority’s Covid recovery mission. Sophie led a capacity building project to reduce health inequalities across Liverpool, working with the local authority and the local NHS.

She is also a part-time associate lecturer at Cardiff Met University.
